Directions to Royal Natal National Park

Directions from Johannesburg

Take the N3 south towards Durban and continue to Harrismith. At Harrismith, take the N5 towards Bethlehem. After approximately 5–7 km, turn left onto the R712 towards Phuthaditjhaba and QwaQwa.

Follow the signs onto the R74 towards Bergville, travelling past Sterkfontein Dam and over Oliviershoek Pass. Turn right at the sign for Northern Drakensberg/Royal Natal National Park and follow the signs to the park entrance.

Continue through the park to Thendele Camp, Mahai Camp or Rugged Glen. Allow approximately 4½ to 5 hours, depending on traffic, weather and stops.

Travel advice: Avoid travelling after dark where possible, as livestock and pedestrians may be present on the roads approaching the park. Allow additional travelling time during mist, heavy rain or winter weather.

Directions from Durban

Take the N3 north towards Johannesburg. After passing Estcourt, take the R74 exit towards Winterton and Bergville. Continue through Winterton and Bergville, following the R74 towards Harrismith and Oliviershoek Pass.

Turn left at the sign for Northern Drakensberg/Royal Natal National Park and follow the signs to the park entrance. Continue through the park to Thendele Camp, Mahai Camp or Rugged Glen, depending on your accommodation.

Allow approximately 4 to 4½ hours, depending on traffic and stops.
